Parson Johann Ludwig Christ described in this book how he kept his bees in stacked wooden boxes. For the honey harvest he lifted off a full box; the colony survived.

Today we know so much more about the nature of the bee, yet beekeeping is struggling with losses. Some are therefore asking again what a colony needs of its own accord and how much handling it will bear.
